The RBI Foundation Phase Indigenous Language Literacy Pilot intervention has the primary purpose of improving Setswana reading skills in the Section 14 Early Childhood Development Centre's and Primary Schools (targeting the Foundation Phase band). For the pilot the focus will primarily fall on Grade 1 learners and our current school based Grade 1 teachers and Akanyang Centre for Learning Year 4 teachers.
The scope of this programme includes and excludes the following items:
In Scope
Offer training of reading methodologies to ACT students as well as the mentoring qualified teachers who are full time based at our schools.
Provide reading materials to sampled schools.
Facilitate reading as an after school program at the sampled schools. Sampled schools include all 5 regions.
Prepare ACT student teachers to be champion Setswana Readers for Grade R and 1 learners.
Compile appropriate Setswana reading material bibliography for Grade 1 learners.
Secure and sustain relationship between ACT and selected Bafokeng Primary Schools with a view to set up a RBI Foundation Phase Indigenous Language Literacy Programme.
Monitor learner improvement in Setswana Reading Literacy in each sampled school.
