The project aims to establish a support service specifically for children with disabilities in the Royal Bafokeng Nation (RBN). This project's primary goal is to foster and promote inclusion within RBN's disability programmes for children. The initiative was initiated in response to the realization that children with disabilities are not benefiting from existing disability programmes as much as adults with disabilities are.
A key objective of the project is to educate parents and teachers, encouraging them to enable children with disabilities to participate in various programmes. This approach is intended to provide these children with exposure to opportunities that can enhance their prospects and help diminish the stigma associated with disability from an early age.
To identify children with disabilities who can benefit from this initiative, the project will conduct disability awareness campaigns (Persons with Disabilities regional dialogues) in local settings, including Makgotla structures, clinics, and schools. Initially, the project will be piloted in one RBN region, with plans to expand to other regions if it proves successful. The projected timeline for this project is from the 30th of January 2024.
