The Pre-school education programme e.g.Pre-Kindergarten relates to the systematic improvement in the qaulity of education of children prior to thier entry into primary school. Typically children in the particularly important developmental age range (2 1/2 and 5 1/2 years old) attend pre-school programmes world wide and these have shown significant benefit in support of overall childhood development.
The current programme focuses on formal pre-school education and addresses the following 3 areas:
1. Developing pre-school centres of education excellence throuought the Bafokeng Region. The Centres should act as resources for children, parents and communities. These centres should promote the educational excellence, adpoting and supporting other pre-school centres.
2. Undertake continuous professional development (CPTD) of pre-school teachers within the Region. This incompasses the professional reflective, community of teaching practice as well as formal education and improvement of teacher qaulification. Pre-school CPTD and teacher education is directed at international best practice and standards. Trained, qaulified teachers in every Bafokeng pre-school is essential for long-term Regional flourishing.
3. The provision of appropriate equipment to Regional Bafokeng pre-schools. This equipment supports CPTD and teacher education (Item 2) and is conditional to school/teaher alignment with a code of ethical practice and participation in CPTD.
