Education levels in South Africa are adversely affected by the inability of thousands of children to read. The poor literacy levels are a direct result of lack of exposure to print. This problem is evident in RBN schools where there are very few books for children to read. With funding it is the desire of the RBI to equip all schools with classroom library units, stocked with relevant and appropriate reading material.

The scope of the project includes and excludes the following items:

In Scope:

• To source materials
• To deliver materials and equipment and training of teachers in the effective use of the books
• To develop a monitoring and evaluation tool to ensure the improvement in literacy level
• To equip RBN schools with reading materials appropriate to grade

Out of scope

• To develop schools outside the Royal Bafokeng Region
