The Royal Bafokeng Nation is currently undertaking a Groundwater Project aimed at augmenting its existing potable water supply, sourced from water boards, with groundwater, in response to ongoing water shortages across the Nation.
Phase 1 of the project, which began in Phokeng, is nearing completion. Phase 2 (referred to as the "Green & Pink Packages") is scheduled to begin in July 2025.
As part of preparations for Phase 2, this component of the project focuses on the development of security infrastructure plans. This includes the design of security systems, the preparation of Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and the appointment of a suitable service provider. The planned security measures will be overseen by the Royal Bafokeng Protective Services—will eventually include surveillance cameras and perimeter fencing at key water management sites, with the goal of protecting critical water infrastructure and resources.
The Green Package includes: Central & North East Region: Kanana Chachalaza, Kopman, Mamerotse, and Tsitsing. The Pink Package includes: Capital: Lefaragatlhe East, Lefaragatlhe West, and Bobuanja.
The project is expected to commence o the 20th of March 2025, following the appointment of a service provider to implement the identified solution.
